WHAT A SEASON IT WAS!!!

'An Affair of the Heart' highlighted this spectacular season.

'An Affair of the Heart' fashion show, chaired by Lynn Harrison and Mary Beth Rempp took its new place in February and exceeded all expectations. Unique fascinators and fabulous fashions highlighted the most successful PAWC fashion show ever! It proved to be the affair to remember. The co-chairs worked tirelessly to ensure that all went smoothly. Their event featured fabulous fashions, elegant escorts, silent auctions, raffles and was capped off with a wonderful luncheon. Darci Jacob from Panache was responsible for all the dazzling styles that PAWC models displayed to the delight of the crowd. The fashions were topped off with unique fascinators to make the already fantastic styles even more eye-catching. The show raised more than $8,400 for charity.

Other notable fundraisers were the Book, Bag & Scarf sale (chaired by Sandy Ciampa), the Card, Game & Make-up Party (chaired by Pattie Meades) and the Holly Jolly held at Mary Jo Steltmann’s lovely home and chaired by Mary Jo, Jan Ganz and Mary Ellen Thinnes. These events helped the PAWC raise more than $20,000 for scholarships and local charities. In addition to raising funds, generous members donated supplies to help needy families. Food, diapers, toys and toiletries were just a few of the items collected at each meeting.

Although fundraising is its major goal, the PAWC had other highlights to this fabulous season. Melissa Nell (from Manatee Natural Resources) introduced us to a form of geocaching (treasure hunting for nature) and gave us a virtual tour showing the natural treasures hidden in our own neighborhood. Deputy Russ Younger, from the Manatee Sheriff’s Office, provided tips on safety both inside and outside the home. Palm Aire’s own author and artist, Jeri Susi, presented an outstanding 'strip show and tell' program, entitled 'Women and History: How Did We Ever Survive?' She demonstrated how women of the past managed to live with corsets and long skirts but without running water, washing machines and bathrooms. Her audience was enthralled but felt lucky to live in 2017.

Remember, the PAWC has not shut down for the summer. The new board is already diligently planning exciting events to make next season even more memorable.

Membership has also been growing by leaps and bounds. This year alone, the PAWC added more than 50 new members. The Mix and Mingle events have become more and more popular and have led to even more active new members. They are continuing during the summer months. It’s a great time for future members to come and get acquainted. Don’t miss the next one. Please check emails for dates and times.
