THE PALM AIRE WOMEN’S CLUB PROUDLY ENTERS ITS SIXTIETH YEAR.

The club is celebrating sixty years of making a difference in the Sarasota-Manatee area.

This year, the Manatee Commissioner’s Office acknowledged the sixty years of service the Palm Aire Women’s Club has devoted to the Manatee area. Over the years this club has used its fundraising skills to aid local charities as well as providing scholarships to deserving students. They declared April 24, 2018 to be Palm Aire Women’s Club Day. The club was proud and honored to receive this award and has vowed not to rest on their laurels.

The PAWC was founded to help others and make a significant difference in their lives. Working together to achieve common goals has also helped members to find and keep friends. Ask any of the 160 plus members.

Even though great events are already in the works for the special 60th season, the 59th year should not be forgotten. This is the year the PAWC went digital. Thanks to the hard work and expertise of web master Karen Oberne and Igor Tarasov, the Palm Aire Women’s Club website became the go-to place for all information about members, news and upcoming events.

The 59th season was also highlighted by the gala extraordinaire "La Bellezza Eterna". Fabulous clothes highlighted one of the most successful PAWC fashion shows of all time. Co-chairs Peg McKinley and Patti Sue Peotter-Bettes worked tirelessly with Aliki Gable from Evelyn and Arthur to ensure all went well. The event featured fabulous fashions, innumerable raffles and unique decorations designed by the PAWC’s own Sammy Ulbrick. No one went home disappointed and, best of all, all the proceeds went to charity.

This year’s book sale was another resounding success. The board decided to add jewelry to the books, bags and scarves already being sold and the results were astounding. It broke all prior records. Co-chairs, Barbara Link, Sammy Ulbrick and Sandy Ciampa deserve many thanks for their tireless efforts ensuring the success of this event.

Another special event of the season happened when Sarasota’s future prima ballerinas showcased their grace and abilities in a series of dance vignettes for the PAWC. Audience members were delighted with the performances of the Onyx Studio2 dancers whose ages ranged from 7 to 18. All present were impressed with the dancers and predicted bright futures on the professional stage for the group.

Remember, the PAWC has not shut down for the summer. Pattie Meades is planning "Out and About Girls", a series of organized activities for members to enjoy. Please check your eblasts for dates and information.

The Mix and Mingle events will also take place during the summer. They are great places to meet and stay in contact with other members. They are also a great way to introduce friends to the club. Don’t miss the next one. Please check emails for dates and times.

PLEASE NOTE, the PAWC meets on the second Friday of the month at 11:00 from October to May. Membership is open year-round and is not limited to Palm Aire Country Club members. For information, contact chairperson, Cecelia Massey. Dues are now $40 yearly or check the PAWC website at www.palm-airewomensclub.org.
