ANOTHER RECORD BREAKING YEAR! MORE THAN $20,000 WAS RAISED FOR CHARITY.

Peg McKinley elected President for a second term.

The Palm-Aire Women's Club’s hard work enabled the club to offer additional scholarships and grants to local charities in need of funding. This year the PAWC awarded SEVEN grants, two more than last year, due to the generosity of its members. The Charity committee selected small, independent charities that truly make a difference in our community. This year’s grant recipients are: Brotherhood of Men Mentor Group, Brothers and Sisters Doing the Right Thing, Dollar Dynasty, Healthy Teens Coalition of Manatee County, Joy Sarasota, Last Chance Animal Sanctuary and Mothers Helping Mothers. These grants will be presented at the May luncheon.

The PAWC April Scholarship luncheon proved to be an inspiring as well as entertaining event. Carol Darling, the scholarship chair, introduced 3 very special scholarship winners.

Brittany Basler, a brand-new mother, told of her struggles as the only woman correction officer in a men’s prison. She is determined to use the scholarship to help her become a probation officer, ensuring a better life for her family.

Sara Unger is using her scholarship for early childhood education. She plans to work with the entire family. She feels that this approach can help end the cycle of poverty.

Denise Yarid from MTC is using her scholarship to work with a forgotten population, cognitively impaired adults. She will work with Alzheimer patients as well as mentally ill and intellectually disabled adults.

In keeping with the scholarship theme, Melody Dickerson spoke of the scholarships offered to her award-winning chamber choir. These awards enable her group to focus on their studies instead of finances, allowing them to perform for the PAWC as well as other groups. Her outstanding chamber choir performed 3 selections including a solemn Armistice Day piece and an upbeat, exciting number extolling chilies and spicy food.

In addition, attendees also elected the 2017/2018 PAWC Officers. Peg McKinley and Pattie Meades will remain as President and Vice President. Lydia McIntire will be the new Corresponding Secretary. Sherry Coles will remain as the Recording Secretary and Susan Romine will continue as club treasurer.

Our 'Mix and Mingle' gatherings are growing more popular every month. Don’t miss the fun. Everyone is guaranteed a wonderful time. It’s also a great time for new and old members to get acquainted. Don’t miss the next one. Please check emails for dates and times.

Remember, the PAWC usually meets on the second Friday of the month at 11AM from October to May. Membership is open year round and is not limited to Palm Aire Country Club members. For information, contact chairperson, Cecelia Massey. Dues are now $40 yearly.
