The PAWC CELEBRATES ITS 58th YEAR!

It is difficult to believe that PAWC has been in existence for 58 years. It began as a small group of women who wished to socialize with friends. They named the group the De Soto Lakes Women’s Club. It grew and soon they acquired a state charter, elected a president, (Frances Briddon), and adopted by-laws.

The original group joined forces with women from the Palm Aire Country Club and subsequently realized that they needed a clubhouse where they could meet regularly. Someone offered to donate land if they would provide the money to build a club house.

These enterprising women realized that raising money for a clubhouse prevented them from supporting local charities that were in desperate need of funding. Thus, when the Palm Aire Country Club offered them space, they quickly accepted. The club decided that their fund-raising efforts could be redirected to better use. They changed the name of the club to The Palm Aire Women’s Club and the rest is history.

Today the PAWC is still going strong and President Peg McKinley’s goal is celebrate the achievements of the past 58 years. To accomplish this goal, she and Vice President Pattie Meades have been working diligently to ensure that next year’s programs are the best ever. In addition, they are adding for the first time a special dinner and dance event to be held in November! They have also moved the fashion show to February to enable seasonal members to attend.

Membership has been growing by leaps and bounds. The Mix and Mingle events are very popular and have led to many new members. Each month, members take turns hosting other members, potential members and guests. These events continue during the summer months. It’s a great way for present and future members to come and get acquainted. Don’t miss the next one. Please check emails for dates and times.
